Portland Basin Museum. Tel: 0161 343 2878. Situated alongside
the Ashton Canal at Portland Basin. The Ashton Canal has undergone
much improvement in recent years. It winds its way through 18
locks from Manchester to Ashton-under-Lyne. After falling into
disrepair it reopened in 1974 and is now a popular circular boating
route through city and countryside. About 2 miles north of Dukinfield.
