Aberystwyth. Aberystwyth is the main holiday resort on the west
coast of Wales, home to the University of Wales and the National
Library. It lies on the A487, with Machynlleth about 15 miles
to the north and Aberaeron about 14 miles to the south. Aberystwyth
has two long, gentle bays that curve round between two rocky
headlands. It has a pier, a promenade and a town harbour marina
where the rivers Rheidol and Ystwyth end their journeys. The
town rises up from the flat plains in between the two beaches,
where the graceful portland stone buildings of the university

Cardigan. The town of Cardigan on Cardigan Bay is a pleasant
market town lying on the A487. It is about 10 miles west of Newcastle
Emlyn and 14 miles northeast of Fishguard. Just over the river
Teifi, the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park with its noted coastal
walks begins, while to the north are the Ceredigion Heritage
Coast walks. Beautiful scenery, an island nature reserve, dramatic
cliffs, clear blue sea and maritime flowers make this an ideal

Carmarthen. Carmarthen lies on the A40, overlooking the River
Twyi. It is about 8 miles east of St Clears, 13 miles north of
Llanelli and 12 miles west of Llandeilo. Carmarthen is about
65 miles west of Cardiff. Carmarthen is possibly the oldest town
and the first medieval walled town in Wales. The Roman fort can
still be seen and is believed to date from AD75-77, there is
also a roman amphitheatre. The Gwili Railway, a section of the
former railway line to Aberystwyth, has been re-opened as a steam
powered railway for tourists.

Fishguard. Fishguard is a coastal town lying on the A487, with
Goodwick just 1 mile to the west. It is about 12 miles north
of Haverfordwest and 14 miles west of Cardigan. From Fishguard
harbour (confusingly in Goodwick) a regular ferry leaves for
Ireland. Fishguard was the scene of the last invasion of mainland
Britain. On February 23rd 1797, around 2,500 French troops landed
in a cove near Goodwick.

Goodwick. Goodwick is on the A487, just 1 mile to the west
of Fishguard. It is about 12 miles north of Haverfordwest and

Haverfordwest. Haverfordwest is located on the A40, about 12 miles
south of Fishguard and 7 miles north of Milford Haven. Haverfordwest
is dominated by two fine bridges. It is a bustling market town
and the visitor can enjoy its speciality local shops, its rich
historical tapestry, its churches and chapels, its sporting facilities

Lampeter. Lampeter is a market town in the Teifi valley, lying
on the A485. It is about 11 miles southeast of Aberaeron, 15
miles northwest of Llandovery and 10 miles southwest of Tregaron.
Lampeter is amongst the smallest towns in Wales and contains
the oldest university in Wales. During the summer, the famous
Food Festival is held. Farming has been joined by education and
tourism as major industries. Lampeter is now in the county of
Cerdigion, and can boast a wide range of shops and services to
rival many a larger town.

Llanelli. Llanelli is an attractive town on the mouth of the
River Loughor, lying on the A484. It is about 6 miles west of
Junction 48 of the M4 and about 8 miles west of Swansea. Llanelli
has a pleasant shopping centre and nearby is the Millennium Coastal
Park. The National Wetlands Centre Wales is situated 1 mile to
the east of Llanelli.

Narberth. Narberth is a small, attractive town in the rural
heart of Pembrokeshire, located on the A478. It is about 8 miles
north of Tenby, 10 miles west of St Clears and 17 miles west

Newcastle Emlyn. Newcastle Emlyn is a busy market town in the Teifi
Valley. It lies on the A484, about 10 miles southeast of Cardigan,
18 miles east of Fishguard and 16 miles west of Lampeter. Newcastle
Emlyn grew around a crossing point on the river, the castle was
built in 1240 on a high point with the river on three sides.
The castle is now in ruins, Newcastle Emlyn is an attractive
town with antique shops, crafts, a covered market and theatre.
It is only a short distance to the Henllan Railway station where
the narrow gauge Teifi Valley Railway takes you through the beautiful

Pembroke. The old county town of Pembroke and its impressive
castle sit on the southern side of the Pembroke river. Pembroke
lies on the A477, about 7 miles east of Milford Haven and 10
miles south of Haverfordwest. Pembroke Castle is dominated by
its 75-foot keep. Other fine parts of the castle are the Great
Gatehouse, the Country Court, the Norman Hall and the Wogan,
a natural cave over which the castle was built. Pembroke has
a main street of attractive shop frontages of Georgian and Victorian
construction, and impressive remnants of the 13th century town

Saundersfoot. Saundersfoot, with its attractive harbour and sandy
beach is set on the south coast of Pembrokeshire. Saundersfoot
lies off the A478, just 3 miles north of Tenby. It is surrounded
by picturesque countryside and is ideally situated for the Pembrokeshire

St Clears. St Clears is a small town in the middle of an agricultural
area, lying on the A40. It is about 20 miles from Haverfordwest
and 7 miles from Carmarthen. There is an impressive motte and
bailey castle at St Clears, a crafts centre and some small shops.

Tenby. Tenby is a lovely seaside town in Pembrokeshire
lying on Carmarthen Bay. It lies on the A478, just 3 miles south

Tregaron. Tregaron is a market town in Ceredigion lying near
the mountainous source of the river Teifi. It lies on the A485,
about 10 miles northeast of Lampeter and 14 miles east of Aberaeron.
It nestles at the southern end of Cors Goch Caron, a huge red-tinged
marshland that is a National Nature Reserve and famous for the
