Aldershot. Aldershot is located on the A325, about 5 miles
south of Junction 4 of the M3 motorway and 2 miles south of Farnborough.

Beaulieu. Beaulieu is a picturesque and historic village in
south Hampshire on the edge of the New Forest. It is located
on the B3054 on the banks of the Beaulieu River, 5 miles east
of Brockenhurst and 6 miles northeast of Lymington. Lyndhurst
is about 7 miles to the northwest. Many of the present buildings

Bishop's Waltham. Bishop's Waltham is set in beautiful Hampshire countryside,
located on the B3035. It is about 7 miles east of Eastleigh,
10 miles east of Southampton and 9 miles north of Fareham. Bishop's
Waltham is about 12 miles southeast of Winchester. Bishop's Waltham
is about 7 miles northeast of junction 7 of the M27 motorway.
A palace was founded here in 1136 but was destroyed in 1644.
However extensive remains can still be explored, including the

Brockenhurst. Brockenhurst lies in the the middle of the New Forest
on the A337. It is about 10 miles south of Junction 1 of the
M27 motorway, about 5 miles north of Lymington and 4 miles south
of Lyndhurst. The large town of Bournemouth lies 14 miles to
the southwest, with Southampton 12 miles to the northeast. Brockenhurst
was the only village mentioned in the Domesday book as having
a church. The main attractions of the village are the ford running
across the end of Brookley Road, the main shopping area, and

Fordingbridge. Fordingbridge is a small riverside market town situated
on the edge of the New Forest, located on the A338 on the banks
of the River Avon. On the western edge of Hampshire, it lies

overlooks Southampton Water where a ferry service across to Southampton

Surrey and West Sussex. Liphook lies just off the A3 London to

Lymington. Lymington is situated on the edge of the New Forest,
between Southampton (16 miles north) and Bournemouth (14 miles
west). Lymington is a port on the Solent in the New Forest area.
It is located east of Bournemouth and faces Yarmouth on the Isle
of Wight. Brockenhurst is about 4 miles north and Lyndhurst about
8 miles north. Lymington is a bustling market town with a large
tourist industry, and two yacht clubs and several boat yards

Lyndhurst. Lyndhurst is a small town in the New Forest, often
called the "Capital of the New Forest". It lies on
the A337 with Southampton 9 miles to the northeast. Lyndhurst
does not have a railway station, but it is only 4 miles from
Brockenhurst and 3 miles from Ashurst, both stations on the South
Western Main Line to London and Weymouth. Lyndhurst is about

New Forest. The New Forest is an area of southern England with
the largest remaining areas of unenclosed pasture land, heathland
and old-growth forest in the southeast. The New Forest is mainly
in Hampshire, but also covers some of Wiltshire. It was created
in 1079 by William the Conqueror as a hunting area, principally
of deer. The New Forest has also been an important source of
timber for the Crown. It is an outstanding recreational area
for walking and riding. The ponies, cattle and pigs turned out
into the open forest are owned by the "Commoners".

Odiham. The picturesque village of Odiham is 45 miles west
of London in Hampshire. It lies midway between Fleet (5 miles
east) and Basingstoke (5 miles west) on the A287, and is 2 miles
southeast of Junction 5 of the M3 Motorway. Farnham and Aldershot
are both about 7 miles to the east. The nearest train station,

Petersfield. The market town of Petersfield is situated in rural
Hampshire, on what was the main Portsmouth to London coaching
route, now the A3. Petersfield is about 20 miles from Portsmouth
and 60 miles from London. It is 9 miles west of Midhurst and
8 miles southwest of Liphook. A statue of King William III stands
in the town square, and 16th century timber framed houses and

Portsmouth. Portsmouth is Britain's foremost naval station on
the peninsula of Portsea Island. It is located about 1 mile south
of Junction 12 of the M27 Motorway, 20 miles east of Southampton.
It is also about 3 miles west of Junction 5 of the A3(M), about
6 miles southwest of Havant and 16 miles southwest of Chichester.
Portsmouth ferry port offers a number of routes to and from France,
Spain, the Isle of Wight and the Channel Islands. King Henry
V11 made Portsmouth a royal dockyard, it has flourished ever
since and it is now a large industrialized city. Portsmouth Historic
Dockyard has the magnificent historic ships HMS Victory, HMS
Warrior 1860 and the Mary Rose.

Ringwood. Ringwood is a traditional market town at the gateway
to the New Forest. It lies on the A31 at the intersection with
the A338. It is about 8 miles north of Christchurch, 10 miles
northeast of Bournemouth, 6 miles south of Ringwood and 11 miles
west of Lyndhurst. With its market charter dating back to 1226
it still holds a lively Wednesday morning street market. It offers
both quaint and modern shops, street entertainment, restaurants,

Romsey. Romsey is a small market town on the River Test,
about 8 miles north of Southampton. It is located on the A3057
at the intersection with the A27, a few miles from the Wiltshire
border. Salisbury is about 14 miles to the west, Winchester is
about 10 miles to the northeast and Eastleigh is about 8 miles
to the east. Romsey is about 4 miles north of Junction 3 of the
M 27 Motorway. The town grew up around a nunnery, but the Romsey
Abbey we see today is a marvellous example of Norman (Romanesque)
and Early English architecture.

Southampton. Southampton is one of the countrys busiest
and most successful deep-water ports, a convenient port for ferry
crossings over to France. It is located about 2 miles south of
Junction 14 of the M3 motorway and about 2 miles south of Junction
4 of the M27. Southampton is about 20 miles from Portsmouth and

South Hayling. South Hayling is located on the A3023 on Hayling
Island, surrounded by the waters of Langstone and Chichester
Harbours. For many years it was dangerous for local inhabitants
to cross these waters to reach the mainland, or take the ferry
to Portsmouth from the western end of the Island. In 1824 a wooden
road bridge was opened linking the north shore with the mainland.
This became a rail link until 1963. A new bridge, built to replace
the old wooden one, was opened in 1956. The A27/M27 South Coast
Route or the A3(M) from London to Havant takes you to the A3023,

Southsea. Southsea is a seaside resort located in Portsmouth
at the southern tip of Portsea Island. Southsea is about 4 miles
south of Junction 12 of the M27 motorway and 20 miles east of
Southampton. It is about 6 miles southwest of Havant and 16 miles
southwest of Chichester. In 1544 Henry VIII built the fort which
became known as Southsea Castle, to defend Portsmouth Dockyard.
The Southsea beachfront is stony and has two piers: South Parade
Pier and Clarence Pier.

Totton. Totton is located about 4 miles from Southampton
and 25 miles from Portsmouth, about 2 miles south of Junction
3 of the M27 motorway. It sits at the edge of the New Forest
with Lyndhurst just 5 miles to the southwest. Totton claimed
to be the largest village in England until it was made a town
in 1974, and until the 1950s, New Forest ponies were free to
