providing a large recreation area. Motor sports in the Arena

on the banks of the Leeds-Liverpool Canal, Wigan Pier is one
of the north wests favourite visitor attractions. At the
heart of The Wigan Pier Experience is The Way We Were, an authentic
recreation of life in the 1900s for the people of Wigan and surrounding
Lancashire. The Trencherfield Mill Steam Engine, considered to
be one of the world's marvels of engineering, has
now been given a new lease of life, roaring back into action

The building houses a collection of around 1,000 paintings, (oils,
watercolours and prints) from the 19th and early 20th centuries.
