Richmond Castle, Richmond, North Yorkshire DL10 4QW - a Norman
stone keep and courtyard fortress, founded by Alan the Red, count
of Penthievre. Two massive 11th century curtain walls, flanked
by rectangular towers, stand against the steep banks of the River
Swale. Today the castle is looked after by English Heritage.

Easby Abbey, Richmond
- Premonstratensian Canons 1155 Easby Abbey sits in a pleasant
position on the River Swale, but due to its position on the river,
the abbey buildings vary dramatically from the standard monastic
layout. The site is run by English Heritage. Free access at any
reasonable time. About 1 mile southeast of Richmond.

racecourse in 1783. The Racecourse is situated just off the A1
