Charles Dickens Birthplace, 393 Old Commercial Road, Portsmouth,
Hampshire, PO1 4QL. Charles Dickens was born in 1812 during the
time of the Napoleonic Wars. Twenty-five years later he published
his first novel. There are three furnished rooms: the parlour,
the dining room and the bedroom. The Birthplace is usually closed

Opened in 1984 to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of D-Day.
The museum houses The Overlord Embroidery with its stirring scenes.
It measures 272 feet and is the largest work of its kind in the
